While teleconferencing relies only on the use of audio, video conferencing makes use of both audio and visual means such as webcams. This technology allows users in different locations to hold meetings without having to be in a single place. Mobile phones are also able to attend via this method as well.

  • PROS:

    You can see the host or participants visually adding another level of personalization.
    No need for participants to travel to attend a meeting.

  • CONS:

    Bandwidth plays a big role in the quality of video streaming capabilities
    Technical problems may arise causing some participants to have trouble joining.


3. Web Conferencing

This is an online service by which you can hold live meetings, presentations, and conferences through the internet. Users can hold a web conference via desktop, smartphones or tablets. It allows individuals to collaborate online, sharing documents or screens. One of its advantages is desktop and application sharing. Web conferencing makes it possible to use slides, videos, or other visual materials for a more efficient meeting. It provides an opportunity for collaborative work regardless of the participants’ location. However, web conferencing is often mistaken to be the same as a webinar. “Webinar” is a combined term that came from the words web and seminar. It is actually a type of web conference wherein the main focus is to educate. This means that while web conferencing is a two-way communication where ideas are shared and exchanged among individuals, and are used for ad-hoc meetings and are used for ad-hoc meetings “webinars” are usually restricted as one-way communication and provides a registration process.

  • PROS:

    This type of conferencing allows the participants to share files including slides and video, increasing engagement.
    Allows for collaboration and can increase job efficiency.

  • CONS:

    Technical issues may cause a delay in response.
    Depending on the speed of both your and the participant’s internet, web conferencing can greatly reduce the visibility and function of shared desktops and applications.


It is important to know what type of virtual meeting you will be hosting before you opt for a small or a large conference call service so that you can properly accommodate the needs of your participants.

Now, with the continuous technology enhancement and evolution, more companies and businesses are exploring to optimize the availability of these digital tools that will consistently allow better means of communication within the company.
